Two Podcasts Every Indie Author Should Know

Barney has it lucky. He’s become the world’s most successful literary agent by representing Marco, an author whose books sell themselves. But what if you’re an indie author trying to emulate Marco’s incredible success? How do you become an expert in promoting your books?

Don’t try learning by trial and error. Believe me, it will be a trial, and it’ll be mostly error. I know. I have an IQ of nearly 80, yet when I first tried to sell my books, I still made predictable elementary schoolboy error after predictable elementary schoolboy error.

The good news is that no writer need repeat my lengthy mistakes. Instead, learn all you need to know from two brilliant podcasts recommended by Marco himself.

The first is The Book Launch Show, fifty episodes all about how to launch a book. What I especially like about this show is that host Tim Grahl, who clearly has an analytical cast of mind, has developed a systematic and scientific approach which he explains step by step and backs up with examples.

I recommend you listen to every episode in order, as it is a stepwise masterclass in Tim’s method, so if you skip the early episodes, you’ll find yourself missing some of the underlying ideas.

The second is The Book Publicist Podcast, which is focussed on how book PR works. Hosted by literary agent and publicist Jason Jones, each episode focusses on some aspect of PR with the help of an expert guest. It’s full of though-provoking, instructive and insightful material. The host and guests are part of the religious publishing scene in Nashville, and some of the preamble reflects that, but the main content is relevant to all writers with a book to promote.

Both podcast shows have associated websites that are full of supporting material for self-published authors.
